The root word of creature is create.

In addition to, or instead of using a prayer list, we can find inspiration for prayer in the things around us.
In the book of Jonah, the Assyrian king led the people of Nineveh to such a dynamic level of national repentance that he demanded even the animals fast and wear sackcloth. Whenever we see any animal, may we be reminded to pray,
may America and nations throughout the world,
both leaders and citizens,
embrace such a radical passion for repentance!

Around the House

My soul yearns, even faints,
for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out

for the living God.
Even the sparrow

has found a home, and
the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may have her young -

a place near Your Altar,
Lord Almighty,
my King and my God.
Blessed are those

who dwell in Your House;
they are ever praising You.
Psalm 84:2-4 NIV

Whenever I see a bird’s nest I recall a prayer associated with this psalm that led our family on an amazing adventure. Here’s the story, but this amazing journey is available for your family too.
After our pastor suggested I read Experiencing God in 1996, I began praying with great urgency that God center our family in the midst of a global Awakening. Then while studying Psalm 84 in the spring of 2002, something stirred deep within me. I wanted to be as the mother bird that built her nest at the temple, raising her young there. I wanted our children to enjoy such a passion for God that they turn the world upside down with an all-consuming, selfless faith and love. And so I journaled a prayer...
O God, my soul faints with longing to be in Your Courts.
Even the sparrow builds her nest there, raising her young at a place near Your Altar. And that is where I desperately desire that my family be - not positioned on comfortable pews observing from a distance, but deep within Your Courts near the holy Flames of Your Altar - the place of sacrifice.
Please center us in the midst
of a global Awakening.

(Inspired by Psalm 84:1-5) (Drafted in 2002)
God led us to Church of the Highlands that fall. We drove over an hour to be there every Sunday and every Wednesday and more... It would take a large room filled with many bottles to store the tears I shed, asking God to move us closer to this church. But I would drive many thousands of miles during thirteen years of agonizing desperation until all family hearts were aligned for such a transition... Had I ever chosen to simply attend another church because it was closer to our home, we would have missed something extraordinary...

At that time we couldn’t possibly have known that this church that launched in a Birmingham high school on February 4, 2001 would so explode with growth and influence that they now have a key global impact in fulfilling The Great Commission. And had I attended only when I felt like it, my family would have been crushed by the influence of our culture. Seriously.
I vividly recall the long, tear-filled drive on March 2, 2003 – an experience so painful it took everything within me to make myself get out of the car when we arrived. The prayer Pastor Chris opened with and the message he delivered is indelibly etched upon my heart as God used him to directly address my despair – “Don’t Give Up Your Dream.” The weekly encouragement has helped Tim and me commit to our marriage breath by breath until our death.
If I had not crucified my tired flesh and driven to Birmingham every Wednesday night, our son-in-law Matthew (meaning “gift from God) would not have entered our lives. It was such commitment that attracted this amazing man of God to our daughter. We would not have our four beautiful grandchildren. And if we had chosen to stay home one Wednesday evening to lick our painful wounds inflicted from someone within the church, we would have missed a powerful personal testimony Pastor Chris shared that kept Melissa Ann from taking her own life.

God longs for our families to thrive in these dark and crazy days. He wants us to be light to the nations. And there’s so much more strength in numbers as others reinforce the values we’re called to teach the children He has assigned to us. So whenever we see a bird’s nest, let’s pray,
Let there be healing within hearts and homes among families throughout the nations, among those who relentlessly pursue You.
May they find great protection and encouragement
in a local church, laboring together to fulfill Your Great Commission.
And please,
God, raise up a generation
dangerous in prayer.
Faithful Father, no matter what we ever may face, please hide our families in the shelter of Your holy Wings (Ps. 91:4)...
Father, please keep the evil one far from all spiritual seed that's planted within human hearts today (Matt. 13:4)...
A year after losing her kitten, Emma Kathryn continued to love everything about cats. As a surprise, we took her to a local cat show. It was a sad experience.
When she gently extended her hand to touch a cat, the owners snapped at her. One even had a sign on her pet's container: "My cat doesn’t bite, but I do.” And sadly, far too many people respond the same way toward Jesus. And far too many Christians act this way toward other Christians and the lost.
Whenever we see a cat or dog, how might we be inspired to pray?

  • A dog's energetic welcome?
Please grant us bold and energetic joy among those who do not yet know You, a joy that’s contagious and melts hardened hearts.
  • A dog’s bark?
Father, keep us ever vigilant and protective of our families and friends.
  • And a cat’s purr?
Help me to remain content and peaceful even within the realm of every troubling circumstance.
Now share your list with others. We have so much to pray about.
Consider naming your pet something that inspires prayer. Our indoor cat is named Whisper. When I see her,
I want to hear Your Voice,
even when You whisper...
Our black cat is Bethany, meaning "House of God." When I see her,
Father, I want my house
to be Your house,
a house of prayer
for all nations.
The calico is Bonnie, meaning "beautiful." She inspires thanksgiving for our treasured friend Bonnie, and we're reminded that God makes all things beautiful in His time (Ecc. 3:11).
To address issues we were facing, I spent seven hours praying and anointing our house with oil. Both girls had very disturbing nightmares. Bees swarmed our shrubs - the noise so loud I could hear it indoors. Our cats had kittens that week; they all abandoned their young. Stray dogs killed other kittens, scattering their dead bodies across the yard. A car struck our favorite male cat. And so, I began standing against any assault of the enemy of all souls on any part of our 80 acres. Jesus demonstrated that demonic spirits do enter animals, as Mark 5 recounts their entering a herd of about 2,000 swine, running down a steep cliff, and drowning in the sea.  We do not pray for the salvation of our animals, but we pray that satan not have any access or power over them. It has made a difference.

On the Farm

Jesus said,
"How often I have longed
to gather your children together,
as a hen gathers her chicks
under her wings,
and you were not willing."
Matthew 23:37 NIV

While this verse speaks of Jerusalem, this could be said of all who resist Jesus. I've been there...
Oh God, may our hearts be willing to be gathered under Your Wing, close to Your Heart, protected in Your Presence...
Whether milk or meat, we can be thankful for these products and for those who supply them.
Father, bless the dairy and cattle farmers... Protect their time
and investments... Bless their families...
I pray for my friend Holley who allowed me to use photos of her animals.
When Kristina’s first child was born, we fought to stay awake as Jeremiah cried out day and night, seemingly unceasingly – desperate to be fed. Those midnight moments inspired a prayer from 1 Peter 2. Considering what circumstances prompted him to write this powerful message, write your own prayer. It’s very powerful.
So abandon every form of evil, deceit, hypocrisy, feelings of jealousy and slander. In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God’s Word. For this “milk” will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life — especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of the Lord Jehovah and have experienced his kindness.
1 Peter 2:1-3 The Passion Translation
Some nations boast of
their chariots and horses,
but we boast in the name
of the LORD our God.
Psalm 20:7 NLT

May our families not trust in education, skills, experience, money, strength, government, human relationships or resources, but rather put their trust and make their boast in the Name of the Lord our God (Ps. 20:7).
I saw heaven standing open
and there before me
was a white horse,

whose rider is called
Faithful and True.
With justice He judges

and wages war.
Revelation 19:11 NIV

Father, help us to remain faithful to our mission of fulfilling The Great Commission, relentlessly focused on the fields that are ripe for Your Harvest, regardless of our circumstances, until Your work is complete here on earth.
When John the Baptist saw Jesus approaching him, he referred to Jesus as the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29). The Bible, especially Revelation, has many sheep analogies. Here’s the challenge. I’ll share twelve Scriptures for you to draft and adopt your own powerful sheep inspired prayers.
It’s imperative we remain focused, faithful, and faith-filled, in prayer about these crucial topics listed below.
Passion for Harvest
prayer and action
"The harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest. No go; I'm sending you out like lambs among wolves."
Luke 10:2-3 HCSB
Passion for Truth
Beware of false prophets.
They come to you

disguised as sheep,
but in their hearts

they are vicious wolves.
Matthew 7:15 GW
Passion for all who are lost
If a man owns a hundred sheep and one lamb wanders away and is lost, won't he leave the ninety-nine grazing on the hillside and go out and thoroughly search for the one lost lamb?
Matthew 18:12
The Passion Translation
Passion for meeting physical and spiritual needs
This must be important to Jesus as He repeated this three times.
Jesus asked Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?"
"Yes, Lord," he said to Him, "You know that I love You."
"Feed My lambs,"
He told him.
A second time He asked him, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?"
"Yes, Lord," he said to Him, "You know that I love You."

"Shepherd My sheep,"
He told him.
He asked him a third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?"
Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, "Do you love Me?" He said,
"Lord, You know everything! You know that I love You."
"Feed My sheep,"
Jesus said.
John 21:15-17 HCSB
Passion for understanding the Old and New Testaments
The Holy Spirit led Philip to an Ethiopian who was reading from Isaiah 53, "He was led like a sheep to be killed. Just as lambs are silent while their wool is being cut off, he did not open his mouth. When he was treated badly, he was refused a fair trial.”
Acts 8: 32-33 NIRV
Passionate desire
to stop sinning
So remove every trace of your "leaven" of compromise with sin so that you might become new and pure again. For indeed, you are clean because Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been sacrificed for us.
1 Corinthians 5:7
The Passion Translation
Passionate trust as The Lamb holds the destinies of individuals and nations in His Hand

[The Lamb Takes the Scroll]
And I saw in the right hand of Him who sat on the throne
a scroll written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals.
Revelation 5:1 NKJV
Passion for God-honoring expressive worship
[Worthy Is the Lamb]
Now when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each having a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints.
Revelation 5:8 NKJV
Passionate focus
on the eternal outcome
beyond every earthly storm
And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, I heard saying:
“Blessing and honor
and glory and power
Be to Him who sits
on the throne,
And to the Lamb,
forever and ever!”
Revelation 5:13 NKJV
Passion to share Hope with the brokenhearted
They shall neither hunger anymore nor thirst anymore; the sun shall not strike them, nor any heat; or the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Revelation 7:16-17 NKJV
Passionate tenacity
in persecution
They conquered him completely through the blood of the Lamb and the powerful word of his testimony. They triumphed because they did not love and cling to their own lives, even when faced with death.
Revelation 12:11
The Passion Translation
Passionate passion
among those I love
to enjoy the passion
of the chosen and faithful

These will make war with the Lamband the Lamb will overcome themfor He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.
Revelation 17:14 NKJV

Who are your loved ones following?

Because of the multitude of voices seeking to gain our attentions, I sleep with a sheep. You read that correctly. Whenever I get up during the night or change positions, I can feel my sheep and am moved to pray,
Father, please help us to recognize Your Voice and follow wherever You may lead.
Speak to us day and night even as we sleep.
May we not recognize the voices of those bearing dark doctrines or those attempting to lead us astray…
May we clearly hear Your Voice above all others, including our own.
May we follow you closely, listening carefully for Your slightest Whisper (John 10)…
After Bible study each morning, I put my sheep on my Bible next to my chair, a visual reminder that prompts me to this prayer each time I see it throughout the day. I collected the sheep in the photo when touring the Billy Graham Library with Melissa Ann, Michelle Cox, author of Just 18 Summers, and Wayne Atcheson, director of the library. So in addition to the prompts described here, this sheep reminds me to pray for my friends, their expanding influence, and for the Billy Graham organization.
Thank you, John and Deborah Giles, for your friendship and for sharing these precious lamb photos.
Experience their beautiful  Agnus Dei Farm:
Give the children in your life a toy sheep, teaching them these prayer prompts. I give sheep to parents of newborns so that as they tuck their babies into bed, this prayer covers their family. If they're not Christians, I pray for hearts inside the homes of everyone to whom I give sheep. Regardless of age, I give sheep to individuals struggling with hearing God's Voice regarding relationships, life decisions, or vision...
Modify these prayers to cover elected officials, news media, cultural influencers, individuals who do not yet know God...
When I see any sheep, I pray that we all hear God's Voice.
David clearly understood sheep analogies:

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down
in green pastures:
he leadeth me
beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul:
he leadeth me in the paths
of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through
the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil:
for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff
they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence
of mine enemies:
thou anointest my head
with oil;
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy
shall follow me
all the days of my life:
and I will dwell
in the house of the Lord
for ever.
Psalm 23 KJV

What are your thoughts about Darwin? When I see apes or monkeys, I’m moved to pray that people will think with their brains. Seriously. It has always required a male and a female to produce another being. How did a male and female each evolve separately from primordial soup, over millions of years, at the same time (lifespan), each within the same geographic location, flawlessly complete with the necessary equipment and knowledge necessary to create another individual in their image? And then they both drew the breath that gave them life?
Let’s pray for the expanding wisdom and influence of scientists who are Christians…
When Abraham's servant was sent to find  a wife for Isaac, Rebekah was the answer to his prayer. She  took the time to draw water for a stranger and the ten camels he brought with him. Camels may go many days without water and then drink as much as 25 gallons in 10 minutes, up to about 40 gallons in one session. This young girl may have drawn about 400 gallons of water!
may our children be the answer to the prayers of many strangers.
May they selflessly respond to the needs of others
with great strength and endurance...
And Rebekah's obedient generosity led to a blessing we may apply to our loved ones today.

May you become the (spiritual) mother of
thousands of ten thousands,
and may your offspring
possess the gates of their (spiritual) enemies (Gen. 24)...
An Asian elephant has small ears; the African has large ears. Prayers for the people of Asia or Africa.
This photo memory inspires me to pray that the hearts of parents be knit to their children and the hearts of children be knit to their parents... That they communicate willingly and openly... For unity within homes and hearts...

And those of us from Alabama may feel motivated to pray for the University of Alabama - Roll Tide!
Flamingos are named from the Latin and Spanish word "flamenco." This means fire, which refers to their bright colors. These colors come from the pigmentation in their foods. So how can seeing a flamingo inspire prayer?
Father, let Your fire burn within us, fire that moves us to stand up, stand strong, and present Your beauty to the nations.
Your Word is our food. Above all, may our favorite food be to do Your sacred Will.
The people of Africa... Awakening in Africa... Thanksgiving for every memory with our children and grandchildren exploring zoos, celebrating the breathtaking imagination of our Father Creator...
Australia - for a dynamic anointing to rest upon the Church in Australia, for ever-expanding influence in igniting the Greatest Awakening...
Seeing a lioness reminds me of page 16 of Lisa Bevere's book Lioness Arising - that we rise to gather strength, greet and groom others, rise to hunt, rise alongside other lionesses, rise to move the young to safety, confront enemies that threaten the pride, and rise to walk with our King.
The righteous are as bold as a lion.
Proverbs 28:1 NIV
The devil stalks the earth as a roaring lion seeking to kill, steal, and destroy everyone and everything to which he is permitted access. Please grant us the courage, strength, and precision of David who slew the lion to protect the lambs... May we remain ever vigilant at all times and in all circumstances, taking our stand in every spiritual assault, protecting and rescuing as many souls throughout the world as possible.
And please grant us the favor of Daniel; send Your angels to shut the mouths of lions (physical and spiritual adversaries) that they may not inflict spiritual or physical injury.
And please raise up a generation dangerous in prayer, those who will pray unceasingly for those who are suffering throughout the world (1 Pet. 5:8-9).
They’re a favorite at the zoo because they’ll swoop down, rest on our hand, and drink the nectar we provide. But they can teach us valuable lessons as Christians.
We, like the lorikeets, can be confident when approaching others – not because of what they have that we can get from them, but because of what we have that we can give to them. Jesus.
What if we were as welcoming to the world as we are to the lorikeets? What if, when reaching out to others, we offer them a smile, joy, hope? Wouldn’t we be more effective?
Add to this list and share your ideas with your children and grandchildren.
For Christians in China - strength and passion, as many are persecuted because of their faith... For Awakening to spread like wildfire among the Chinese... For the leaders of China to embrace their King and their God... And for America too, as Chinese Christians are praying for us to experience the fire so that our lukewarm Church will become hot, as it should be.
These are truly fearfully and wonderfully made. Their tail feathers may reach a span of six feet, shedding them after every mating season. They can make their feathers quiver, emitting low-frequency sounds that we cannot hear, seeking to attract specific females.
May all who know You and those You are drawing to Yourself be attracted to the sound of Your Voice throughout the silence of each night and above the shouts of every cultural distraction...
King Solomon imported peacocks (1 Kings 4:29), inspiring prayer for wisdom (James 1:5).

Just as You gave King Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sands on the seashore, Father, we need such wisdom to fulfill Your Great Commission in these very Last Days to which You have appointed us.
And so for such wisdom we plead...

Peacocks are the national bird of India and may remind us to pray that the name of Jesus be exalted and adored there.

Peacocks eat young snakes, including cobras! They do not allow them into their territory.

May we be faithful to protect our homes and spiritual territories from the intrusions of satan, our enemy, crushing him rather than entertaining him.
And while peacocks may appear prideful of their appearance, the Bible instructs us,
Be humble. Be gentle.
Be patient.
Tolerate one another
in an atmosphere thick with love.
Ephesians 4:2 ICB
Prayers for the people of Asia... Those of us from Alabama may be inspired to pray for our Auburn University Tigers - War Eagle!  (Tigers/Eagle - I know it's confusing - Alabama's Crimson Tide has an elephant mascot and Auburn Tigers have an eagle. Pray for us in Alabama.)
Prayers for the people of Africa...
Prayer can become as natural as breathing. Have fun with small children - pray for all wearing striped clothing.
We can also think of Jesus, Isaiah 53:5 -
"By His stripes, we are healed."
for biologists - those who study life...

Protect impressionable minds from seeds that distort the Truth about the origin of life.
Let everything that has breath give You praise...

It's me...
wearing the ultimate concealer of bags and wrinkles.

In the Wild

Yahweh my Lord
is my strength;
He makes my feet
like those of a deer
and enables me to walk
on mountain heights!
Habakkuk 3:19 HCSB
We lived in a small house decorated in "Early American Hunting Lodge." Tim's deer suspended from the dining room walls moved me to pray,

As the deer pant
for streams of water,
please grant me,
my family, my friends, my church,
and people throughout the world
 an insatiable thirst for You,
O God (Ps. 42:1)...

Having had Lyme Disease, please pray for all suffering with this or other diseases - that every cell in their bodies be made whole and holy.
"Come live in me,
all my life take over.
Come breathe in me
and I will rise
on eagle's wings."

A song by Reuben Morgan of Hillsong - an absolute must in every daily worship list. If unfamiliar with this powerful prayer, follow link. It will change your life and prepare your heart to change the world.

Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
but those who hope in the Lord

will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah 40:30-31 NIV

He will cover you with his feathers,
and under his wings
you will find refuge;
his faithfulness
will be your shield and rampart.
Psalm 91:4 NIV

May our children
and grandchildren daily
be motivated to turn from
the things of this world
to follow and serve You
as fishers of men,
feeding the True Bread of Life
to the multitudes
(Matt. 4:19-20)...
This has become my family "fish prayer."
My grandsons love catching lizards! The Bible says,
A lizard can be caught
with the hand,
yet it is found
in king's palaces.
Proverbs 30:28 NIV
So, when I see a lizard, it inspires me to pray,
Father, please let this be my family, friends, and church... Please send us to individuals who have great influence and authority.
May we walk with wisdom and opportunity to speak Your Words of Light and Love and Truth to those who influence multitudes who walk in darkness.
Every breath for Your honor and glory and praise...
In this world we are as sheep among wolves. Help us to be shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves. Holy Spirit, anoint and empower us for the task of fulfilling The Great Commission. Strengthen us to face any persecution in a manner that will turn vast multitudes to You (Matt. 10:16)...
May we flee from every form of temptation, just as we would flee from a snake (1 Thess. 5:22)...

I was vacuuming my living room when I discovered the beast below stretched out in a corner. What would you have done if you were alone? Read the above prayer again and think about it.
The God of peace will soon crush Satan
under your feet.
The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
Romans 16:20 HCSB

Insects & Arachnids

May we daily consider the efforts of the ant, undertaking God-sized, God-inspired tasks far greater than we, in our humanness, are capable of performing. Move us to be faithful, courageous, industrious, and diligent - giving all for the expansion of Your great and glorious Kingdom (Prov. 6:6).
Highlands Pastor Alger Armstead delivered a great devotional at Saturday morning prayer today (03/10/18). He articulately made the point that ants are persistent. If you destroy their home, they say, "Thank you," and build two more. Spray them; they don’t stop. They’re relentless! Are we as relentless in prayer?
It's become common for people to flit from one relationship to another, establishing dangerous patterns. I did this, a very painful season. Not wanting my girls to make similar mistakes, I decorated their rooms with butterflies and prayed they would remain within a spiritual chrysalis, completely covered in holiness, and completely surrendered to God's calling upon their lives.
They have.
please keep our children and their future marriage partner in a similar chrysalis, protected from temptation, all awaiting Your perfect timing regarding every detail of their destinies...
Father, bring them to a level of spiritual maturity and beauty before they attempt to spread their wings to fly...
We lift up this generation of young people. May their passions be wholly devoted to You, waiting faithfully as You work out Your Will within them and through them...
It's difficult to protect our children's eyes and minds and hearts in this culture. We can't even go shopping without exposing them to lewd images. Desensitizing will destroy them - and so we must fight in every way possible to protect them.
        Today's headlines:
~A rapper mutilated his body and attempted to jump from an apartment to his death.
~A young actress/singer was hospitalized for emotional trauma - she's recognized for her use of drugs and alcohol.
This pathway leads only to greater bondage and greater destruction. They're trapped in a dark spiritual and emotional dungeon and don't even realize it. As we fight for our children and their friends to remain within a spiritual chrysalis, let us fight together for these.
He has made everything beautiful
in its time.
Also He has put eternity
in their hearts,
except that  no one can find out
the work that God does
from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NKJV
Father God, please open the eyes of scientists and students and of people everywhere - that they recognize You as Creator  and fall in reverent wonder.
Sell your possessions and give to those in need.
This will store up treasure for you in heaven!
And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe;
no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will be also.
Luke 12:33-34 NLT

Lord, we want You to be the Treasure that we long for, the Treasure that we live for. Quicken our hearts always to purposefully live for Eternity, free and unhindered by earthly trinkets or distractions. Move our hearts to avoid all impulsive spending. May we be content with the blessings You have given us, sharing freely with those in need, investing faithfully in the expansion of Your Kingdom...
May all sin be as revolting to us as roaches…
May we not be entangled by the activities of this world that we may please Him who enlisted us as soldiers (2 Tim. 2:4)...
Having had Lyme Disease, I urge you to pray for all suffering with this or other tick borne diseases - that every cell in their bodies be made whole and holy...
