IN THE GARDEN

Jesus was a Master at taking ordinary, earthly things and assigning them spiritual significance. When the disciples urged Him to eat food, He responded that His food was to complete the mission God sent Him to do (John 4:31-34).

His heart exploded with compassion for people because they were like sheep without a shepherd, meaning they were lost, wandering – they needed God (Matt. 9:36).

He frequently visited a garden to pray. In our own backyards, or as we drive past the yards of others, we can find inspiration for our prayers.

ACORNS
The potential within a single acorn to produce generations of life is staggering. A tiny acorn may give birth to a ginormous oak, as well as the acorns it produces year after year after year. Then each of those acorns has the capacity to produce a tree filled with more acorns year after year after year.

OAK TREES
May my children and grandchildren and their children after them be as mighty oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord, producing seed and fruit that cannot be humanly measured until Your Work and Will are completed here on Earth (Is. 61:3)…

FENCE
May we never stray beyond the boundaries and protection of God’s Will for our lives…

FLOWERS
Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing.
2 Corinthians 2:14-15 NKJV
~
May we bear Your fragrance
at all times and in all places.

As a deer longs for
streams of water,
so I long for you, O God!
Psalm 42:1 NET Bible

FOUNTAINS
May justice roll down like water and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream (Amos 5:24)…
May our families hunger and thirst for righteousness, for these will be satisfied (Matt. 5:6).
May vast rivers of Living Water flow in us and through us out into a world that's parched and dying (John 7:38).
May vast, innumerable multitudes desire to be baptized and to follow Christ, walking with Him and for Him into all places throughout the earth, baptizing others and making disciples within all nations...

GARDENS
Lord, how I long for my family, friends, and church
to be engaged in activities that capture Your attention
and the attention of the world,
bearing fruit for Your blessing and honor and glory –
fruit that cannot be humanly measured (2 Chron. 16:9)...
And as You prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, may the most desperate cry of our hearts daily be,
“Not my will, but Yours be done.”

GATES
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
the Lord mighty in battle.
Psalm 24:7-8 NKJV

Father, how I long for our level of obedience to be so great that our families are able to claim the blessing of Abraham – that You multiply our spiritual seed as the stars of the heavens and as the sand on the seashore; and that our children and grandchildren possess the gates of our spiritual enemies – not seeking any earthly or eternal reward…
May we all seek Your fame and glory and the advancement of Your Eternal Kingdom (Gen. 22:17)...
Thank You that it is impossible for the gates of Hell to prevail against Your church (Matt. 16:18)!
Father, help us to be fervent and faithful to guard the gates through which information and images enter our families' minds and hearts.

GRASS
~
The grass withers,
the flowers fade,
but the word of our God
shall stand forever.
Isaiah 40:8 TLB

The life of mortals is like grass, they flourish like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, its place remembers it no more. But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord's love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children – with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
Psalm 103:15-18 NIV

Lord, our lives are as a vapor quickly vanishing away. Grant the members of our families a holy fear of You and Your sacred Power.
Grant us deep wisdom regarding Your Commands and a zeal to obey ~ Your Desire our Delight.
May we serve You fearlessly and faithfully, willing to lay down our lives to lead others into Your Light and Truth and Love.
Every breath for Your honor and glory and praise, in the beautiful Name of King Jesus, we pray...

LADDER ~ STONE
~~
Father, just as You appeared to Jacob as he slept with his head on a stone, a ladder connected Heaven to Earth with angels descending and ascending, please visit us, reveal Yourself to us, speak to us and our families and our friends even as we sleep (Gen. 28:10-17)…

PATHWAYS
~
Your word
is a lamp for my feet,
a light on my path.
Psalm 119:105 NIV
~~~
The LORD says,
"I will guide you
along the best pathway
for your life.
I will advise you
and watch over you.
Psalm 32:8 NLT
May we faithfully follow You so that we may lead those who are lost into Your Light and Love and eternal Kingdom.
May Your Footsteps be our pathway.
PLANTS
For botanists, gardeners, plant nurseries...
~
Father,
open eyes to the extreme wonder of Your divine creativity...
May we live as though planted by streams of water - leaves never withering, yielding fruit in its season; that whatever we do for the expansion of Your Kingdom may prosper (Ps. 1:3)...
PUDDLES
While at the Los Angeles Dream Center on a mission trip, we were warned to never step in puddles on sidewalks at Skid Row. It rarely rains in LA; so, the puddles generally mark where those who are homeless have urinated. We had a precious and powerful time on those dangerous streets. Rain puddles, food trucks, and Friday nights take me back, all inspiring prayers for the homeless. What's your puddle prayer?
ROCK ~ STONE
~
For You are my rock
and my fortress;
therefore, for Your name’s sake,
lead me and guide me...
But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord;
I say, “You are my God.”
My times are in Your hand…
Oh, how great is Your goodness,
which You have laid up for those who fear You,
which You have prepared for those who trust in You
in the presence of the sons of men!
Psalm 31:3, 14-15, 19 NKJV
Trust in the Lord always,
for the Lord God
is the eternal Rock.
Isaiah 26:2-4 NIV
Lord, You are my immoveable Rock, a mighty Fortress – a perfect place of safety... You deliver me from every assault of the enemy… When the attacks are painful, You comfort and bless me…
I will call to You, my heart exploding with praise, confident that I will be saved from my enemies (2 Sam. 22:2-4)…
For geologists and those who study the history of the earth –
Please frustrate the efforts of anyone sowing seeds of deception within the realm of science...
Please protect impressionable minds and lead them to the Truth
As Christian scientists explore the wonders of Creation, reveal great and wonderful things that lead vast multitudes to You (Jer. 33:3)…
You are coming to Christ, who is the living cornerstone of God’s temple. He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.
And you are living stones that God is building    into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are his holy priests. Through the mediation of Jesus Christ, you offer spiritual sacrifices that please God.
1 Peter 2:4-5 NLT
May we be moved to keep all of God’s Commandments, so significant that He etched them in stone with His Finger. Father, please etch them clearly upon the tablets of our human hearts...
Stand strong.
Do not let anything move you.
Always give yourselves fully
to the work of the Lord,
because you know that
your work in the Lord
is never wasted.
1 Corinthians 15:58 NCV
SAND
Let's read this familiar verse in context.
Jesus said,
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heavenMany will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.'
"But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:21-27 NKJV
This Scripture forcefully pulses through my heart... Please grant me a relentless passion not only to reach the lost, but also to ensure that all within my realm of influence enjoy a powerful relationship with Christ... Help me to inspire them to love and obey You with all of their hearts, minds, souls, and energies... Grant me wisdom and boldness in this cause.
May we always be diligent to reverently obey Your instructions so that we may face every circumstantial storm with strong confidence that our homes, firmly established on the Rock, cannot be shaken (Matt. 7:24-27)…
Father,
You gave Solomon great wisdom and discernment and understanding, measureless as the sand on the seashore. Oh, how we need our families to have such wisdom in such a time as this, and so for such wisdom we plead (1 Kings 4:29)...
  STUMP
~
The world of the generous gets larger and larger;
the world of the stingy gets smaller and smaller.
The one who blesses others is abundantly blessed;
those who help others are helped.
Curses  on those who  drive a hard bargain!
Blessings on all who play fair and square!
The one who seeks good finds delight;
the student of evil becomes evil.
A  life  devoted  to  things  is  a  dead  life, a  stump;
a God-shaped life is a  flourishing tree.
Proverbs 11:24 The Message
THORNS
~
One of the most exciting verses in the Bible:
~
The rain and snow come down from the heavens and  stay on the ground  to water  the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
You will live in joy and peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song, and the trees of the field will clap their hands! Where once there were thorns, cypress trees will grow. Where nettles grew, myrtles will sprout up.
These events will bring great honor to the Lord's name; they will be an everlasting sign of his power and love.
Isaiah 55:10–13 NLT
TREES
Father, grant us wisdom and discernment to recognize the tainted fruit produced by false prophets.
May we produce an immeasurable abundance of good fruit, bearing seeds of Love and Truth that will generate immeasurably more fruit for Your honor and glory and fame.
May our children and grandchildren and their children after them be as mighty oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for Your splendor, until Your Work and Will are finished here on Earth (Is. 61:3)…
May we not walk in the counsel of the ungodly or travel the pathway of sinners, or sit in assemblies with mockers, but instead take delight in Your Law, thinking about it day and night, even as we sleep.
May we be as trees planted by rivers – an abundance of water, producing abundant spiritual fruit at all times… Whatever we undertake for You – may it prosper, for You know our way, and You are walking with us (Ps. 1:1-3, 6).
Blessed is the man
who trusts in the Lord,
and whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree
planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots
by the river,
And will not fear
when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green,
And will not be anxious
in the year of drought,
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 NKJV
VINES
Jesus said,
“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
"I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”
John 15:1-8 NKJV
This prayer inspiration is so important to me that the photo is of the kitchen valances over my windows - grapevines loaded with grapes. I also have these tied to the chairs of our dining table.
~
Yes, Father, may we abide in You and Your Words abide in us. The Will we long to execute is in accordance with Your Will - that we bear much fruit. By this our Father is glorified. Yes!
If not removed, a vine may choke and kill shrubbery and trees. It's the same with children and adults: peer pressures, cares of this world, hobbies, secular indoctrination... These may choke and kill our spiritual lives and potentials.
`
Father, help us to recognize and manage our lives so that You are clearly recognized as our highest Passion and Priority... Lord, I want my family, friends, and church to be engaged in activities that capture Your attention, bearing fruit that cannot be humanly measured (2 Chron. 16:9)…
WATER ~ GARDEN HOSE
~
Father God, move those who call upon Your Name to arise and cry out in the night, as each watch of the night begins. Move us to pour out our hearts like water and lift up our hands to You for the hearts and minds and lives of the children and their families who so desperately need You (Lam. 2:19)…
Father, please raise up God-honoring leaders who will turn the hearts of American citizens, and the world, back to You. Turn their hearts like water, Lord (Prov. 21:1)...
As a deer longs for
streams of water,
so I long for you, O God!
Psalm 42:1 NET Bible
YARD WORK} WEEDING
Let's pray that our families, friends, and church see to it that no one falls short of the grace of God, and that every root of bitterness that might cause trouble be quickly crushed, keeping many from becoming defiled (Heb. 12:15)…
