Jesus was a Master at using simple objects to turn human thoughts toward spiritual matters, with an impact so great that many willingly left their homes and possessions, fully trusting God to meet every need, while risking their lives to take His Message to the world. 

 

When Jesus saw Peter and Andrew fishing, He told them to follow Him and He'd make them fishers of men (Matt. 4:18-19). When His disciples urged Him to eat food, Jesus told them His food was to complete the mission for which God sent Him (John 4). He spoke of people as sheep and Himself as The Good Shepherd (John 10), sowing and harvesting as the Word of God and the End of the Age (Matt. 13). People worshiped the sun, but Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world" (John 8:12). 

 

God wants our minds centered on Him, His Presence woven into the fabric of our every thought as we live our lives in constant prayer and friendship with Him. And so we, using Jesus as our example, may break any attachment to this world by seizing every opportunity to use the material things of this world to inspire thanksgiving and prayer.
